Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him? ... Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, Here I am. If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.

Laura, I have bad news for you. Did you know that April is Kill Your TV/Cultivate Beauy month at Sojourn? So just when you're coming off of lent, you'll be entering into Kill Your TV month. It will be two months of NO TELEVISION! I will certainly pray for you to make it through. Ha!
Maybe it's good news, LB! Lent is 46 days long... so by the time Easter rolls around I'll probably be so used to finding other stuff to do besides watching TV that maybe it won't bother me. Hehehe... feeling a little anti-establishment. Reject the media marketing machine! Yeah! Fight the real enemy! *tears picture of Ted Turner*
REJECT THE MEDIA MARKETING MACHINE!!!
Oh yeah. I have a degree in advertising. And I still exclaim "REJECT THE MEDIA MARKETING MACHINE!"
Nik, on my list of reminders to myself that I have posted above my computer, one item says: "Remember that giving in to impulse buying means that I am succumbing to the media-marketing machine that is trying to own my life. My life does not belong to advertisers or marketing firms, but is "hidden with Christ in God."
Maybe I'll write more about this later, but I've had a bizarre urge lately to drop out of the culture and live in a cabin in the woods and grow my own vegetables and stuff. A product, I guess, of my discontentedness with the American culture of consumerism. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go get in my car and drive the 10 blocks to campus.
whens the next post?
Soon! Soon!
